# Setting up Two-factor Authentication (2FA)

Adding Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to your eclean account is the best way to help keep your profile, personal data, and paid access secure. When 2FA is enabled, logging in will require both your password and a unique, time-sensitive code generated by an app on your smartphone.

### How to enable 2FA on your account

Before you begin, make sure you have an authenticator app installed on your mobile device, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.

1. **Log in** to your [eclean account dashboard](https://eclean.gg/account/security/).
2. Navigate to the **Security** tab on the main menu.
3. Scroll down to the **Two-Factor Authentication** section.
4. Click the **Enable 2FA** button. A QR code will appear on your screen.
5. Open your authenticator app on your phone and select the option to **Add a new account** or **Scan a QR code**.
6. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer monitor.
7. Your app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter this code into the verification box on the eclean website and click **Enable**.

||| After enabling 2FA, eclean will provide you emergency backup codes. Keep these codes safe! If you lose your phone or accidentally delete your authenticator app, these backup codes are the only way to regain access to your eclean account.
