# I deleted a file by mistake

If you deleted a file by mistake, what you can do next depends on how the file was removed.

Normal deletion may still leave recovery options. Secure shredding is different and is designed to make recovery difficult.

### What to try first

1. Check the **Recycle Bin**.
2. Check File History, OneDrive, or your backup tool if you use one.
3. Open eclean **Cleaner History** to confirm which cleanup or shredding action ran.
4. If the file was securely shredded, do not expect normal recovery options to work.
5. Stop using the drive if you plan to try professional recovery.

### Important note about File shredder

File shredder is meant for files you intentionally want to destroy. Support cannot promise recovery after secure shredding.
